Street Gear Used for Music Ministry

Kevin Taylor's Street Music Ministry in Bancroft, Ontario. This section is primarily for techie folk or other musicians, but when I'm out on the street, many people seem to be interested in all the gear/equipment I use. So, I thought I would share a little. Over the past four years, my system has been gradually growing. (blessings from God). I now have a tent (which is marvelous, as I'm not thinking about those big black clouds overhead). My battery powered p.a. system has been doubled in size, with two powered 50 watt speakers, with 10 hours of battery life.

My mixing section changes depending on the amount of gear I bring out. Sometimes, I just go into a little mixer, and other times I might have my recording interface hooked up to record high quality multi-track audio. I use a Duracel Power Supply to power my mixers, processors, drum machine and laptop. I can get about 4 hours of power out there on the street.

Not just an acoustic that plugs in, but it actually has both electric and acoustic pickups in it, and I can control how much drive/distortion, etc. on my electric right from the dials, and combine the acoustic and electric sounds together. I call this Ibanez Montage 'Honey Pie'. (she was a gift from God... a long but wonderful testimony of His love).

Attached to my guitar is a TriplePlay synthesizer pickup, which connects wireless to my laptop to play sampled sounds, usually strings and keyboard pads, but any instrument is available with a click of the mouse. Basically, it tracks what I'm playing on the guitar and plays keyboard sounds, which really fills out the sound.

It's very flexible, and allows me to move in the Spirit as far as, whether I redo that verse again, or move to the bridge, etc. I'm not locked in like I used to be with backing tracks for many years. Now if I'm moved to go back and do a chorus again, I can use my feet and 'Buddy' to get me there quickly.

I have all my worship songs in there, and can switch keys on the fly, display words on the screen, and with the Airturn Pedal (Bluetooth), I can go back to the Chorus again, or bridge, or to the next song, or over several songs, etc. It is the most amazing app, but only runs on iOs.  I had no choice, it forced my hand into the Apple world. But, I love it so much, really can't say enough great things about this set up for lyrics and chords. Everyone on every worship team should be outfitted. No More Paper!!!
