I am currently without a Sunday morning Worship Leader position, mostly due to the pandemic. Much of my music ministry has been through media and produced in Glory Studios. I would love to dive back into some deep worship again soon.
A new worship band has been formed with people from different churches, and we have been rehearsing every other week in the studio in hopes and preparation for leading worship or playing in an outreach format this summer. The band is comprised of Kevin, Heather Johns, Gary Fitzpatrick, Amy White and Landon White. We are working on contemporary worship and outreach songs with three of us singing lead parts. The band has been dubbed by Landon as 'Glory Misfits'. :)
On Sunday evenings, I have been leading a different kind of worship in Harcourt, at the Community Chapel. Since January 2019, we have been having unplugged, circle-sing style of worship at their Word & Worship nights. These have been intimate gatherings of brothers and sisters from several different denominations, throughout the area. We have the words and chords up on the screen and anyone can bring an instrument to join in. The songs we sing here cover several decades of popular worship music, from the traditional, Sweet By and By, to the newest of songs like Waymaker. Then pastor Don Waterhouse has been expertly teaches in this relaxed atmosphere, with all of us sitting around and discussing the teaching. They have been fantastic times of worship and learning and everyone is truly welcome. Unfortunately for all of us, Pastor Don recently passed away, and the Word and Worship nights have been put on hold. Not to mention, the pandemic restrictions only allowing for a few people. We're not sure where this will go, and we ask for your prayers in direction from God.
I have been fortunate enough to be under the mentorship of Pastor Don for many years. Nancy, my Mom and I have been attending Harcourt Chapel in person and online since April of 2020, and I've been given several opportunities to preach from God's Word. This has been a direction that I believe God has been sending me for some time. These messages have also been recorded and available online.
Much of my experience in leading worship came from 7 years serving as one of the worship leaders at Bancroft Pentecostal Tabernacle. This is where I first started to play contemporary worship music including music by Chris Tomlin, Hillsong, Matt Maher, David Crowder, Jesus Culture and others. Over the course of time, the musical style changed at this house of worship as well, and has managed to stay quite contemporary in their style of worship. I love that family, and had a difficult time leaving, but Nancy and I are convinced that God was calling us elsewhere.
